From Pirganj, Rangpur, to National Recognition
Kulsum Akter began producing organic compost on July 1, 2009, in Pirganj, Rangpur. In 2013, while still a school student, a small compost project she ran was featured in national newspapers — an early sign of the recognition that would follow. That work grew into Kulsum Agro, a vermicompost production business now recognized by the Bangladesh government at the highest level.
In 2023, Kulsum Akter received the SEIP Shopnojoyee Nari Sommanona — the most prestigious honour among her awards — from the Ministry of Finance, for her contribution to agriculture through earthworm-based composting. She has also been recognized by the Department of Agricultural Extension (2018) and the Speaker of the Bangladesh National Parliament.
